International Deposit Fees: CRV, Pfand, Statiegeld & More

Updated this week

Canteen Works Globally

Canteen supports deposit and environmental fee systems around the world, including CRV, Pfand, Statiegeld, Consigne, Pant, and more.

Setting Up Fees for Your Region

Regardless of where you are, the setup process is the same:

  1. Create collections in Shopify for each fee tier (e.g., "Small Bottles", "Large Bottles", "Kegs")

  2. In Canteen, create a rule for each collection with the appropriate fee amount for your region

  3. Use automated collections so new products are automatically included

Tips for International Merchants

  • Multiple fee tiers: If your region has different deposit amounts for different container sizes, create a separate collection and rule for each tier

  • Multi-packs: For products sold as multi-packs (e.g., 6-packs, 24-packs), set the fee to account for the pack size

  • Currency: Canteen uses your store's currency β€” set fee amounts in your local currency

  • Automated collections: Use these whenever possible so new products automatically get the correct fee

Your Responsibilities

Deposit and environmental fee regulations vary by country, state, and province. It's your responsibility as a merchant to:

  • Determine the correct fee amounts for your jurisdiction

  • Understand which products require deposits or fees

  • Stay current with any regulatory changes

  • Consult with a legal or tax professional if you're unsure

Canteen gives you the tools to charge any fee amount on any product β€” the specific rates and rules are up to you. πŸ’š
