Creating a Transaction Fee
Follow these steps to set up your first credit card surcharge in Chargly.
Step 1: Open Chargly
In your Shopify admin, go to Apps and open Chargly.
Step 2: Create a Fee
Click Create Fee (or similar button)
Choose fee type: Percentage or Fixed amount
Set the rate (e.g., 3% for credit card surcharge)
Name the fee (e.g., "Credit Card Surcharge")
Save
Step 3: Enable on POS

Step 4: Test It
Add an item to your POS cart
Tap the Chargly tile
Verify the surcharge amount is correct
Multiple Fee Types
Want different rates for different payment methods?
Create separate fees (e.g., "Visa/MC - 2.9%", "Amex - 3.5%", "Afterpay - 6%")
When you tap the Chargly tile, you'll be prompted to choose which fee to apply
Staff selects the correct fee based on the customer's payment method
Tips
Make sure to check your local regulations before implementing surcharges — some states/countries restrict or cap surcharge amounts
Consider posting signage about surcharges at your point of sale for transparency
Some merchants offer a cash discount instead of a credit card surcharge — the approach depends on your local laws
